We made it back, and our trip was amazing!! (Short…but VERY amazing!!!) I think we ran on adrenaline and energy drinks the whole time as we woke up at the crack of dawn every morning and didn’t go to bed till after midnight every night…but seeing Poppee’s face light up when we walked in the room was worth every bit of it!!!
Thursday when we arrived into PA around 1ish and we drove to where one of his sisters lives and spent about an hour with her, then drove to Clarion, PA to his parents house…they have a Wii and Zach nor myself have ever played with one, we seriously stayed on that thing till around 1AM and we all laughed till there were tears in our eyes…Zach and I came up with the idea that for our Anniversary we will get one and that will be our present to each other :) (I can’t wait!!!!)
Friday we woke up at the crack of dawn, ate breakfast then headed to Brockway to see Poppee; Poppee looks wonderful, his mind is still there, he just doesn’t feel too great and sometimes you can tell he doesn’t feel great. The nurses and everyone that walked in kept telling us that they were amazed because this was the most he has been awake in days. We would just spend hours sitting by his side just talking or watching TV, we played “Gold Fish”…Zach had to help him a little bit, but it was amazing getting to spend that time with him. When it was time for his nap…Beth took Zach and I too Red Lobster to celebrate there birthdays (which are today, they have the same birthday…); after that we ran and dropped our stuff off at Grandpa Ronnie and Grandma Donna’s house since we were staying there that night, then we headed back up to the nursing home to spend more time with Poppee…we all sat around and talked for a while, helped him eat his super…while we were there Zach’s grandparents and his dad were cooking our “Good Friday” dinner at his grandparents house, when we got the call it was ready we headed home to eat…(oh how I missed my Father in laws cooking!!)…after dinner Zach and I headed back to see Poppee until it was time for him to go to bed.
Saturday morning we woke up (this was our Easter with his family), we headed to see Poppee bright and early, we stopped and got him an Easter card and a little rabbit that wrapped around his rail on his bed (too keep an eye on him). He loved it, he kept staring at his rabbit and if it would turn upside down he would try to fix it. A school nearby made them all Easter baskets, so he kept trying to give us all his goodies. Around 10ish Zach’s mom and sister brought our niece and nephew (Delaney and Kolton) up there to see him, it was wonderful getting to see them, we haven’t seen those two in over a year; boy have they grown!!! Shortly after we headed back to Clarion for the Easter Egg hunt, egg dying and Easter Lunch with the family…being able to be there for a Holiday was amazing—being able to be with all the family, watch the kids run after Easter Eggs, watching Zach help them find the eggs, playing on the Wii with his grandparents and the rest of his family, helping his dad get lunch ready and THE FOOD—(have I mentioned how I missed all his yummy food???? Cause boy have I!!!!!!)…that day was amazing and I am so glad Zach and I were able to spend it with them; after lunch and all the fun activity’s we headed back to Brockway to spend the rest of the night with Poppee…saying goodbye was not easy, he kept saying “See you later” and in the back of our heads we were hoping that would be true, however we just don’t think it will be that. I got some good pics of Zach and his grandpa; I plan to edit them and frame them for him…maybe for part of our anniversary present next month?
Sunday morning we headed to the airport to head back to good ol’ TX! Somehow or another we ended up with First Class tickets and boy was that nice!! We ended up getting home around 5:30ish last night and we didn’t feel like doing much of anything, we took a shower and layed down…we ended up going to bed around 8:30-9:00 and we slept straight through (we were just a little tired!!)
Our trip was a very well needed trip and I am so thankful we were able to go. The moments that Zach and I had with Poppee (and his whole family) but mostly Poppee will always be remembered. I thanked God for being able to spend that time with him. We haven’t heard anything new with “how” exactly he is doing, he just looks like he doesn’t feel good, but looked extremely happy that we were there.
I will try to upload the pics when I get home…thank you for all the prayers!!!!!
(on a side note, my moms angiogram will be tomorrow…hopefully we will know how severe things are then)
