DIET

I have been on a low-carb diet for about 3 weeks now, I am trying to lose about 5-10 more pounds (all the pounds I gained throughout fertility treatments)....

The first two weeks I just counted carbs and made sure not to exceed 20 a day; although it was hard-it wasn't near as hard as I thought it would be...

The next week I didn't 'count' carbs anymore, I've just been watching them...staying away from any bread, rice, potatoes and anything high in carbs...

I have lost a total of 8lbs within 3 weeks, so this diet is working great, and so many people have commented me on my weight lose; but I still could lose about 5-10 more to be at the weight I was before fertility treatments...

It's also a good thing in general to watch your carbs if you have PCOS as it helps reduce your incline levels which PCOS patients have...so I am going this diet for two reasons...to lose a little weight and in hopes that this may help my hormone levels.

The low carb diet is extremely popular, so I am hoping that out of the close to 400 followers I have, some of y'all will have low carb recipes that I can try. SO if anyone has any low carb tips, snacks, meals (breakfast-lunch-dinner), I'd LOVE to hear about these recipes!!!

my husband does the low carb diet or actually now its his lifestyle cause of his thyroid. He loves the Atkins shakes and candy bars and we usually get them from Walmart. As for breakfast he does omelets (usually frozen ones made by Jimmy Dean?) and lunch he does the Walmart Halbanero Wings.
I get recipe ideas from the Atkins website (http://www.atkins.com/Recipes.aspx?searchmode=course)
and just tweek them a little. I also bought some low carb cookbooks from Half Price Books. I can tell you it works! He lost about 40lbs and has maintained for over a year now.

EGGS! You can hard boil them for fast snack or breakfast or you can do what my dh LOVES:
take a mug and spray a little pam in it. Crack open an egg and put in mug. add a little salsa and just a tad of shredded cheese. Scramble with fork. Cover (well!) with paper towel and microwave for 35 seconds. MMMM good, fast breakfast. No carbs!! Check out hungry girl . com she has lots of tips too! Good luck:)

I have done the low carb diet before as well-and will as soon as we return from our vacation. The hard part I found with it is that I get bored so I hope you get some good ideas for different foods!!

I tried low carb when I was on Metformin to counter act some of the not so nice side effects. I loved having salads with every dinner. Also there are alot of whole wheat options now in the stores like sandwich thins or pitas for sandwiches.

Good Luck!

Oh hun. Me and PCOS are always on low carb! Welcome to the club! ALSO with PCOS you are at such an increase in getting diabetes! I have PRE diabetes so had to lose the weight. I do 500 calories of pure protein and then 100 of veggies. I lost 8 lbs my first week then about 4 the rest...I take a week off here and there as to not kill myself. It works for me but I am sure there are dietitians out there who would slap me. I gained 40 lbs with fertility treatments and then some with the twins. I FINALLY started to lose weight (they are almost 2 *gasp*) and it is a slow process but I need it for my health! BUT Kalen's Kitchen (blog) offers so many low carb options. I love it!

Hey Tiffany,
I have PCOS, too, and I struggle with my love of sweets and carbs! But, being healthy and trying to balance hormones has got to be one of the best motivaters!! We are preparing our bodies to grow a child!
A book that my Doctor recommended to me that I thought was really relevant to infertility was "The Schwarzbein Principal" by Diana Schwarzbein. It is all about how our diet has a big impact on our bodies, hormones in specific. She has good recipes that are low carb/high protein in the back of the book, as well.
Hope you have a great day!!

I didn't read the responses above so I don't know if anyone suggested this, hummus and veggies. Yum! Its a good healthy snack. Cheese sticks(low fat ones) and nuts are also good snacks. When I was doing the low carb diet I had the most trouble with snacks. I tend to go for the crackers so it was hard to think of thing with no carbs.

Sugar-free fudgesicles have saved my life! If you take them off the stick and let them get a little melty, add a little dab of free coolwhip and a tiny spoonfull of peanut butter it is almost like eating ice cream... YUM!
